The exhibit shows how Jelgava has changed over time, including the buildings and layout of the city, which is no longer evident today. History is presented through the prism of major infrastructure, traffic improvements and discoveries.

The exhibit consists of several parts – a central map table, 4 touch screens and a two-dimensional projection. The central part of the exhibit is a model of the modern city of Jelgava with the main street grid and the Lielupe River. The only visible physical object is the St. The tower of the Trinity Church, which indicates both the visitor’s location and the fact that this building is the only one that has survived in the city through the different eras. In the background, visitors are accompanied by a light city noise, which allows the visitor to experience the urban environment of the museum.

The two-dimensional projection allows visitors to interactively explore the changes in Jelgava from the 16th to the 20th centuries. On the surrounding screens, users can explore the history of the city’s development during this period in more depth than in a real-time video. The map table on the screens becomes three-dimensional and uses augmented reality to tell the history of Jelgava in three phases – Ancient Jelgava (1574 – 1823), Lost Jelgava (1824 – 1944) and Post-war Jelgava (1945 – 1994). The wide-angle cameras used provide additional depth to the interactive three-dimensional content. Each screen gives you the opportunity to explore the city from a different perspective and test your knowledge with a question and answer game. 

The multimedia content of the screens is designed in a stylised computer graphics design that does not distort the map content into documentary realism. All buildings are presented as relative, simplified volumes, which do not exceed the size of a standard Lego brick. The historical facts of the city’s development are presented in a “tag” approach, with the historical location of objects marked in augmented reality and historical images of the object lightly animated in the subtitle section.
